When should you buy firewood?
Buying firewood each year isn’t a simple and straightforward task. One needs to consider how much will be required to heat up the household during the upcoming season and which type of firewood logs are suitable for your needs. Fall is the best time to decide on renewing your log supply.
Benefits of using firewood
Firewood is a major source of renewable energy and has many environmental benefits. Woodyfuels’ kiln dried logs quality is excellent. Based on our experience of handling biomass boilers as well as being a wood chip and pellet supplier and having the appropriate infrastructure, we can dry wood logs to the best possible low moisture level. Our warehouses are adapted to ensure our wood logs stay dry and secure, no matter the weather conditions.
Woodyfuel dries wood chip to its optimal 20% (+/- 4%) moisture content, which means the calorific value is doubled to around 4000 kWh per ton and allows for boiler efficiency to raise as high as 80%.
Firewood logs advantages
The advantage of using wood as a fuel source is the fact that it is both a green and renewable energy resource. At Woodyfuel we maintain The Ethical Tree Service policy. What it means is that for every tree that we cut, we will replace it by planting several other trees. This means we only harvest a couple of percents of woodlands per year. The other 98% trees grow and like other green plants, use photosynthesis to get rid of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
How to store firewood logs?
Once you’ve purchased all the firewood, you need to ensure that it’s properly stored. A well-designed log rack keeps the timber above the floor and helps keep rodents and insects out of making themselves at home in your wood stack. Although we do not recommend storing your firewood outside, it is good to keep it out for a while, during chilly days so the wind could dry the logs.
